MBLEx at a glance, with the source for every line
Every row below is quoted from a document published by FSMTB and carries the date we checked it. Where FSMTB publishes nothing, the row says so instead of quoting a number from somewhere else.
- Questions

- Time limit
- 110 minutes for 100 questions. If you do not complete all 100 items within the allotted 110 minutes you will fail the exam.Source: FSMTB, MBLEx Candidate Handbook, verified 7 August 2026
- How results are reported
- As a PASS or FAIL result.Source: FSMTB, MBLEx Candidate Handbook, verified 7 August 2026
- How the standard is set
- The FSMTB Board of Directors adopts the passing standard, based on a recommendation from subject matter experts working under the direction of testing and psychometric professionals. The standard is criterion-referenced, applying a minimum acceptable level of competence to all candidates rather than a curve.Source: FSMTB, MBLEx Candidate Handbook, verified 7 August 2026
- Retake policy
- You must reapply and pay the application fee in effect at the time of reapplication. If you have already passed, you cannot retake it unless your state board approves a retest.Source: FSMTB, MBLEx Candidate Handbook, verified 7 August 2026
- What passing gets you
- A passing result supports an application for licensure in a regulated jurisdiction. Passing the MBLEx does not itself result in a certification or credential, and before you can legally practice you must apply for a license through your state board or agency.Source: FSMTB, MBLEx Candidate Handbook, verified 7 August 2026

- Numeric passing score
- Not published by FSMTB. The FSMTB Candidate Handbook describes criterion-referenced scoring and reports results as PASS or FAIL. It does not publish a numeric passing score or score scale, so any single number you see quoted elsewhere is not from this handbook.Checked against: FSMTB, MBLEx Candidate Handbook, verified 7 August 2026
- Exam fee
- Not published by FSMTB. The MBLEx Candidate Handbook requires the application fee to be paid with the application but does not print the amount, stating only that a retake is charged at the fee in effect at the time of reapplication.Checked against: FSMTB, MBLEx Candidate Handbook, verified 7 August 2026
- How long it is valid
- Not published by FSMTB. The MBLEx Candidate Handbook does not state a validity period for a passing MBLEx result. FSMTB administers the examination and reports the result to the state licensing board or agency, which sets the terms of the license.Checked against: FSMTB, MBLEx Candidate Handbook, verified 7 August 2026
Always verify: the format, timing and scoring statements on this page come from FSMTB’s own MBLEx Candidate Handbook, checked on the date shown above. Fees, application steps and jurisdiction rules come from FSMTB and from your own state board. Passing the MBLEx supports a license application, it does not make you licensed, so confirm what your state requires before you assume otherwise.
