The billing tools are constantly confused
Cost Explorer visualises and forecasts. Budgets sends threshold alerts. Cost and Usage Report is the granular, hourly, resource-level export that lands in S3 for a BI tool. Trusted Advisor flags optimization opportunities. Every one appears as a distractor for the others.
Standard Reserved Instances cannot change instance family
Only Convertible RIs can be exchanged across families. With a Standard RI your realistic option is selling it on the Reserved Instance Marketplace and buying the one you need. Console modification of a Standard RI is limited to Availability Zone, scope and network platform.
Security and compliance is 30% and the shared responsibility model runs through it
Know where the line sits for each service type: AWS secures the cloud, you secure what you put in it. And know which service does what: Security Hub aggregates findings and scores you against benchmarks, GuardDuty detects threats, Inspector scans workloads, Macie finds sensitive data, CloudTrail records API calls, Config tracks configuration.
The Well-Architected pillars are examinable by name
Right-sizing instances and moving to Savings Plans is Cost Optimization, not Performance Efficiency. Questions describe an action and ask which pillar it demonstrates, and the pillars are close enough in everyday language to be genuinely confusable.

The 34% domain and the biggest. Compute, storage, networking, databases, and the deployment and management options. Focus on which service solves which problem rather than on configuration detail.
Week 2: security and compliance
30%. The shared responsibility model, IAM concepts, the security services and what each is for, and where AWS publishes its compliance evidence.
Week 3: concepts and billing, then simulate
Cloud concepts is 24% and the Well-Architected pillars sit here. Billing, pricing and support is 12% and it is quick marks: purchasing options, the billing tools and the support tiers. Then sit 65-question, 90-minute simulations. Practice answering every single item, including the ones that look out of scope, because unanswered questions score as incorrect and there is no penalty for guessing. Leaving a box empty is the one choice here that can only hurt you.
Is AWS Cloud Practitioner hard?
Cloud Practitioner is foundational and the format is forgiving. There is no penalty for guessing, unanswered questions simply score as incorrect, and scoring is compensatory so you pass overall rather than domain by domain. The bar is 700 on a 100–1,000 scale.
The quirk worth knowing is that 15 of the 65 questions are unscored trial items that AWS does not identify. If something feels far out of scope, it may genuinely not count. That is a reason to keep moving rather than to lose four minutes proving something to yourself.
The content difficulty is service discrimination: Cost Explorer against Budgets against Cost and Usage Report, or Security Hub against GuardDuty against Inspector against Macie. Each is a real service with a specific job, and each appears as a distractor for the others. AWS publishes no pass rate.

How the AWS Cloud Practitioner differs from the exams beside it
AWS is unusual in telling you exactly how many questions do not count: 15 of the 65 are unscored trial items, and they are not marked. It publishes the same split for SAA-C03, and no other sponsor in our Tech family publishes the number at all. That changes how you should sit it, because a question that feels wildly out of scope may simply not be scored. Against AZ-900 it is longer, costs a published 100 USD, and expires after three years rather than never. It also carries security and compliance as a standalone 30% domain, where AZ-900 folds identity, access and security inside its architecture and services area.
Questions people actually ask about the AWS Cloud Practitioner
What is the passing score for AWS Cloud Practitioner?
700 on a scaled score of 100 to 1,000. AWS uses compensatory scoring, so you need to pass overall rather than pass each of the four domains.
How many questions are on the CLF-C02 exam?
65 in 90 minutes, but only 50 affect your score. The other 15 are unscored trial questions and AWS does not identify which ones they are.
How much does AWS Cloud Practitioner cost?
100 USD, as published on the AWS certification page. That is the exam fee only, and pricing can differ by region and currency at booking.
How long is AWS Cloud Practitioner valid?
Three years. You recertify by taking the current version of the exam again, or the certification is superseded if you earn a higher AWS certification.
Is Cloud Practitioner easier than AZ-900?
They are both foundational, but Cloud Practitioner is longer at 90 minutes against the 45 Microsoft publishes for AZ-900, and puts more weight on security and compliance. Microsoft states its Fundamentals certifications do not expire; Cloud Practitioner does after three years.
Should you guess on questions you do not know?
Yes. AWS states plainly that unanswered questions are scored as incorrect and there is no penalty for guessing, so never leave a question blank.
How long should you study for AWS Cloud Practitioner?

Are these real AWS Cloud Practitioner questions?
No. All 650 are original, written from the AWS CLF-C02 exam guide. The AWS certification agreement prohibits reproducing live items and AWS can revoke a certification over it. Ours follow the exam guide’s four domains, and each explanation says why the other services do not fit the requirement.
